The Hungarian minoriy minority represents a very controversial issue for the Romanian politics, social life and public opinion. I have decided to analize this topic because the Hungarian issue is something that we face everyday and we cannot ignore.
My work will try to offer a complex view of the Hungarians situations starting with 1918 up to the present. The paper contains five chapters and the conclusions, each part dealing with a separate issue of the topic.
The first chapter is entitled 'The Situation of the Hungarians between 1918- 1989'. In this chapter, I will deal with the Hungarian minority starting with the Trianon Treaty until the end of the Second World War. Next, I shall present the situation of the period when Northern Transylvania became part of Hungary and the way the Hungarian population treated the Romanian one.
Also, the Autonomous Magyar Region created in 1952 is mentioned. Furthermore, I will touch upon the Communist period and I shall present the impact this regime had on the Hungarian minority living in Romania, mainly in the western part of the country. During the Communist regime, the situation of the Hungarian national minority encountered some important events that affected its collective memory.
