History of the john adams mantle piece in the white house
By V. I. Andronache
The White House, located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., in Washington DC, has been the home of every U.S. president since John Adams. The presidential mansion is situated on some 18 acres (7.3 hectares) of land amid a parklike setting. The building’s main section measures 170 feet (52 meters) long and 85 feet (26 meters) deep. Its 2˝ stories are mounted on an English basement, which, because of the slope of land, becomes a ground floor, on the south side. Two wings flank the original structure. The West Wing was constructed in 1902, following a Congressional appropriation of $ 65,196. It contains the Oval (presidential) Office, the Roosevelt or staff meeting room, a reception room, and the Cabinet Room. French doors within the president’s office open onto the Rose Garden, which continues to follow the plan of an 18th century flower garden. The president regularly receives official visitors in the Rose Garden. The East Wing was built in 1942 ...
Growth was also stimulated by other key facilities, notably the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Langley, Virginia; and the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), the National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Science and Technology), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) , all in Maryland.
Public Buildings Washington is home to many famous and interesting public buildings and monuments. Many of these are associated with the federal government. The Capitol of the United States is located on a hill rising 27 meters (88 feet) above the Potomac and consists of two wings that branch from a central rotunda. The north wing is occupied by the Senate, and the south wing by the House of Representatives.
No sooner was the Constitution accepted than both individuals and states insisted on additions to protect the people from possible abuses by the new federal government. In 1790 Congress and the states ratified ten amendments known as the Bill of Rights. These amendments guarantee personal liberties and prevent the federal government from infringing on the rights of states and citizens.
For example, the First Amendment-the most far-reaching amendment in the Bill of Rights-prohibits Congress from establishing an official state religion and from preventing Americans from the free exercise of their religion. It also prohibits the government from interfering with freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right “peaceably to assemble.” Other amendments in the Bill of Rights confer on the people the right to speedy trials, to be secure in their homes, and to own and carry arms. The Fifth Amendment states that people cannot be deprived of life, liberty, or property “without ...
The Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century produced important changes in education and educational theory. During the Enlightenment, also called the Age of Reason, educators believed people could improve their lives and society by using their reason, their powers of critical thinking. The Enlightenment’s ideas had a significant impact on the American Revolution (1775-1783) and early educational policy in the United States. In particular, American philosopher and scientist Benjamin Franklin emphasized the value of utilitarian and scientific education in American schools. Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, stressed the importance of civic education to the citizens of a democratic nation. The Enlightenment principles that considered education as an instrument of social reform and improvement remain fundamental characteristics of American education policy.
African American History or Black American History, a history of black people in the United States from their arrival in the Americas in the 15th century until the present day. In 1996, 33.9 million Americans, about one out of every eight people in the United States, were black. Although blacks from the West Indies and other areas have migrated to the United States in the 20th century, most African Americans were born in the United States, and this has been true since the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Tower Bridge History - The need for a new bridge

In 1353, Bistritareceived the right to organize an annual 15-days fair and to have its own seal (a crowned ostrich head holding a gold lucky horseshoe in its beak), representing town's most important trades: crafts and commerce.
Because of unsettling times the city builds defense walls and Bistrita become a fortress. By 1465 the city has 18 defense towers and bastions defended by the city's traders organized in guilds. This is the time Bistrita becomes one of the most important cities in Transylvania along with Sighisoara and Sibiu.

In 1547 Vassily’s son, Ivan IV (known as Ivan the Terrible) was the first Russian ruler crowned as “Tsar and Autocrat of All the Russians” in the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin.
Ivan expanded Muscovy far south till the Caspian Sea by the conquest of the Tatar Khanates of Kazan and Astrakhan. The victory at Kazan in 1552 was celebrated by the construction of St Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow.
Russia had gained control of the whole of the Volga region and Bashkiria. The conquest of the Kazan, followed by that of Astrakhan in 1556, also found an open way along the Kama River to Siberia, with its enormous wealth of furs and mineral resources. The military advance into Siberia began with the campaign of Yermak, who was a hetman (‘headman’) of the Cossacks.
Yermak with eight hundred Cossacks advanced over the Ural mountains into the Ob River basin of Western Siberia and defeated the last Tatar defences. As a result of Yermak’s campaign, Russians gained control ...
African workers had extensive experience in cultivating rice, cotton, and sugar, all crops grown in West and North Africa. These skills became the basis of a flourishing plantation economy. Africans were also skilled at ironworking, music and musical instruments, the decorative arts, and architecture. Their work, which still marks the landscape today, helped shape American cultural styles. They brought with them African words, religious beliefs, styles of worship, aesthetic values, musical forms and rhythms. All of these were important from the beginning in shaping a hybrid American culture

Societatea perfecta - John Kenneth Galbraith
